Frequently asked questions
Here are some common questions about our company and service.
HYDRABOX is an onboard maritime network management platform that brings multiple internet connections and vessel networks together. It enables intelligent WAN prioritisation, automatic failover, network segmentation and centralised usage reporting, helping shipowners and managers maintain reliable connectivity with less administrative effort.
Yes. HYDRABOX supports multiple WAN connections, allowing vessels to integrate different satellite and mobile services into one managed network. Connections can be prioritised according to operational requirements, with automatic failover when a preferred service becomes unavailable.
The standard HYDRABOX includes an integrated VSAT modem, supports up to four WAN connections and offers FleetSHARE integration. HYDRABOX EDGE provides eight software-defined Ethernet ports and an onboard EDGE[CTRL] management interface. EDGE PRO combines two routers, supports up to seven WAN and seven LAN connections, and includes both onboard EDGE[CTRL] and FleetSHARE support.
Yes. HYDRABOX supports network segmentation using VLANs, allowing Business, Crew, CCTV and IoT networks to operate independently. Access policies and bandwidth management can be applied to individual networks to improve security and prevent unnecessary competition for bandwidth.
Yes. HYDRABOX reports connectivity and usage information to the HYDRA EDGE[CTRL] platform, providing shore-based teams with visibility into vessel data consumption, network activity and connected devices. This helps identify unusual usage patterns and manage monthly data allowances proactively.
FleetSHARE enables eligible vessels to share data allowances across a fleet, helping reduce unused capacity and manage consumption more efficiently. It is supported by the standard HYDRABOX and HYDRABOX EDGE PRO. HYDRABOX EDGE does not currently support FleetSHARE.
Yes. HYDRABOX EDGE and EDGE PRO include a local EDGE[CTRL] interface that allows authorised onboard staff to manage crew internet accounts and review usage directly on the vessel. This provides convenient local administration without requiring shore-based personnel for every routine task.
HYDRABOX can be integrated into existing vessel network infrastructure, subject to equipment compatibility and network configuration. Blue C Mobile can also provide complete network design, managed switches, VLAN-enabled Wi-Fi access points, VoIP telephony and maritime email solutions.
HYDRABOX is designed to manage multiple connectivity services, including Starlink, OneWeb, VSAT and mobile broadband. It can therefore support hybrid connectivity arrangements rather than restricting a vessel to a single connection type.
Yes. All three HYDRABOX versions are available with mounting hardware for standard 19-inch, 1U rack installations, making them suitable for integration into vessel communications and IT equipment cabinets.
No, all our airtime plans are offered with a month-by-month commitment. For customers that want to avail of our equipment LEASE to OWN offering there will be an airtime commitment tied to it. Our lease to own agreements are usually over a 12 or 24 month period.
